What does Global Competency means to me ?
To me, global competency is about understanding people beyond my own culture and communicating with respect, empathy, and curiosity. As an international student, it means being open to new perspectives, adapting to different ways of thinking, and creating spaces where everyone feels included – yes, even the shy kid in the back. Itβs the skill of connecting with others – no matter where they come from and using that understanding to learn, grow, and make a positive impact.
Below are the categories I qualify for and the points I have earned toward Global Competency recognition:
| Categories | Points |
| Category C: International Experience | 3 points – International Volunteer Experience (Month or more in duration) |
| Category D: Globally Competent Employment Related Activity | 5 points – > 250 hours |
| Category E: Volunteer Related activity in Canada (on or off TRU Campus) | 5 points – > 35 hours |
